An Overview of my Blog

Hi guys😁

This is my first blog post and I’m gonna use it to talk about what I’m going to be posting in my blog….so read on☺

Now… given that I’m a Pisces with a wandering mind,my posts are going to be quite diverse…, books, lifestyle, studies, college, fashion, astrology, art, etc….I’ll also be talking about things going on in my life as well as my own insights. There are also going to be some tolerable ramblings and rantings.

But i’ll use this post to give you a rough idea about the main content that i’d focus on. Now,to get you people a little familiar with myself—– I’m 20 and in my 2nd year of college.I’m an actuarial science student as well as doing a degree in english literature( a weird combo!! I know:p ). So i’ll be posting stuff related to studies in general and actuarial science & english literature specifically.

I’m also a strong believer in astrology. So,i’ll be posting stuff related to that more often than not. Now that you know a little about me,please comment if there is anything in this post that you could relate yourself to.Also, feel free to mention if you want me to talk about anything in the areas that i mentioned above.

I’d love to hear from you!!

Thanks for dropping by!! 🙂

MBA Admissions: Where are you headed?

Its February now and those of you who (like me) have been grilling themselves through the MBA admissions are in the most crucial phase now. With the majority of entrance exams done, now is the time for the next hurdle!!! Yes. That’s right – the WAT-GD-PI. Although this phase of the process can be different for different people, most people fret due to its unpredictability. I can hear you sigh at how agreeable that seems to you. Well, however undoable it may seem, you can still handle it with a proper strategy. In this post, i’m going to attempt to make this whole thing a little less daunting for you by sharing my personal tips and strategies that i’m using to sail through. There might be some points which you think may not work for you or which you already tried and did not work. Whatever it is, i’m sure you will be able to get some insight into what steps you should take from where you are right now in your preparation. So read on…..

1. Spend a day in complete introspection:

This is something which you should be doing over a period of months. But for those who didn’t, this is a wake up call. All is not lost still and you can still put things together and save yourself. All you have to do is sit down and start doing introspection about yourself. What made you choose your grad subjects? What important life experience you had which really affected you? What are your likes and dislikes? What ticks you? Your weak and strong moments……Write down all of this. Once you are completely done, you will have a basic structure for the next step….

2. Prepare your answers:

Check out the questions asked in interviews of the top 30 b-schools in previous years and try to frame answers to as many of them as you can from the structure that you have. You will be able to answer most of the personal questions from it. You can google and find the questions or if you have joined any coaching institute for prep, you will be given a handbook for it.

3. Be thorough with current events:

Apart from the personal questions, there will be questions related to any important current events that took place recently. You will most probably be asked some facts about it and to express your personal opinion on it. So, it would be a safe bet to know about some recent happenings. Important issues for the past on year are- brexit, demonetization, Dhoni giving up captaincy, Donald Trump, surgical strike against pakistan, jallikattu, etc. A great resource to get all this information and also other important details is Hitbullseye. The site has a lot of tips for preparation for gd/pi as well as previous year questions and all of it is free!!! So, i would recommend you to definitely check out the site.

4. Know your grad subjects:

Being a literature student, my hobby aligns with my grad stream and hence for me answering questions related to academics is not very difficult. But, regardless of your grad stream, make it a point to be very thorough with at least one subject. This can come in handy in case you are asked questions from a weak subject, you can always state the strong subject as your favorite and save your face.

5. Practice the answers:

Once you have a list of prepared answers, practice them out loud in front of the mirror. Notice your body language and voice modulations while you do it. This will be of great help in increasing your confidence and fluency.

6. WAT: This is a test of your writing skills, thought process and knowledge. The way to prepare is same as the interview. Pick out the recent topics and practice writing about them. You can take help from Hitbullseye .

7. GD:

A good way to prepare for group discussion is to join a coaching institute. It will give you the real feel of the competition and also help you develop your speaking skills. Here too, being aware of recent events can be really helpful in factual gds.

Those are all of the tips that i have right now. Feel free to suggest anything else that you find helpful. If i come across anything new I’ll tell you about it. my first interview is scheduled for the 16th of feb for IMT Ghaziabad. I’ll be posting my interview experience here so do follow up if you are looking forward to it. That’s all for this post. Its like 4 in the morning and i have a mock interview tomorrow so i really need to get some sleep to atleast stay awake through it. Lol : )  . Please follow my page if you like my posts. Links to my facebook, twitter and pinterest accounts are given above. Have a great week!!!

Bye : )

I’m back!!!

Hi guys 🙂

I know its been like forever since my last post. I’m sorry for disappearing like that. It was just that i was so hell overwhelmed with all the stuff going on that i completely forgot about the existence of this blog. So, beginning with an apology and yet again another promise to blog regularly, lets proceed with this long due post. I sooo wanted to make a subject specific blog but i would need to organize a bit before i do that. So, this is like my comeback post (yayyy!!!).

Beginning from where we left, i was studying for my actuarial exams all through september. And i had a whole bunch of tests to take in college right until the mid of october. I’m trying to do my best this semester.I am thinking about making a separate blog for study tips for exams and literature specifically. Let me know if you would want me to post about that. I have also started doing internships as a freelance content writer. Life has got really boring recently and thinking about all the things that i have to do is just so overwhelming. I’m trying to calm down and not over stress myself. I feel that planning things out really helps. It is so much more helpful when you have a list of things you are supposed to do, all written down and also divided into doable chunks within a time frame. I have found the app Wunderlist to be really helpful in organizing your life. Its basically an app that lets you make to do lists for all the stuff that you need to do, organised under seperate categories.  When you finish a task, you can simply strike it off. It also relieves a lot of stress when you strike a task off your list and know that you are done with it. If you too are having trouble organizing stuff, i would definitely recommmend you to install the app. It is available for both iOS and Android.

Apart from all of this, i am also trying to study hard for my MBA entrances which are in about a month’s time. So, its been a really busy time for me in the past few months. Since i’m busy studying right now, it will be convenient for me to write blogs related to studying. That way, i will also be able to blog regularly as it will be a great way to de-stress by writing my thoughts. I have a few topics in mind. But, i would like to know from you guys about the topics you would like me to write about. So, comment below the topics that you would like to see a blog on. Also, please follow me on twitter ( Rawshaily). If you like my posts, do comment here as well as on twitter and let you know about the content you would like to see. I will be back in a couple of days with  my next blog. Thanks a lot for stopping by!!!

BYE!!! 🙂

Hi guys 🙂

This is my second blog post. This is mostly going to be me just talking about stuff going on in my life (n a little ranting too :p).These days have been quite busy for me… I wanted to do a genre specific post but sadly couldn’t manage to save enough time to put that together. So i’m just going to be talking about things that have been on my mind n stuff that has kept me preoccupied all these days since my last post.

As i mentioned in my last post …..i’m an actuarial science student n doing a degree in english literature. So thats pretty much the stuff i was busy with. I had my first actuarial science paper (CT1….Financial Mathematics) on the 12th of april…..and i did study my ass off for it and it was tiring. It could have gone well with all the studying that i did but unfortunately it didn’t. I started preparing very late i.e. just 2 weeks before the exam as i fell ill earlier.Though i was able to cover all the concepts n was very clear on all the topics….i didn’t have the time to practice enough so that i could work out the problems fast enough to complete the paper in the required 3 hour time frame of the exam.Sadly that disappointed me as i expected and i had to miss out on questions even though i knew how to solve them as i was short of time.I could see the time ticking by sitting there in the exam hall and knowing that i won’t be able to attempt all the questions even though i knew how to solve them.Well that was just disappointing. I did solve enough questions so that i have a chance of passing but didn’t do as well as i expected.I think i’m quite on the margin…i may or may not pass.So i’ll have to wait until 24th june now to know the results. In case i don’t pass i’ll be retaking the exam.

For people who are unfamiliar with actuarial science……these exams are pretty hard with a 40-50% pass rate. So if you want to crack it in the first go you have to be 100% prepared.

As for now….i have my semester exams coming up.So i’m studying my novels, dramas and poems for my english literature exam.I also have a paper in political science….citizenship in a globalizing world.Besides studying all this stuff i’m also thinking about taking some online courses related to data interpretation which could be helpful for me in my actuarial studies as my degree does not have any mathematical stuff…its just engish n other art subjects. So i’ll have to take up some extra courses.I’ll tell you guys more about it in my future posts.

I will talk about actuarial science in detail in my posts to come so that those of you who haven’t heard about it( well that’s expected……very few people know about it) can get an insight about it.I personally think its a great career choice……interesting n challenging. Also it has constantly been occupying the top spots as the highest paying job. There is a lot of information about it on the internet so you can google n find out what you want to know. There is an easier way as well….you can post your questions here on my blog and i’ll answer them in my next post :). So do follow my blog if you like my post and are curious about actuarial science as i’ll be talking about it in my next post. For those who don’t find themselves connecting any dots here….don’t worry…..i’m going to be taiking about a lot of other stuff too that you will definitely find interesting….so do follow up. I’m also looking forward to doing a post about food sometime. But well that’s all for this post.I’ll try to update you guys shortly if i can steal some time from my exam hustle-bustle :p

Hope you guys liked the post. Do comment any queries you have.I’ll take up your questions in my next post. And in order to stay updated for my future posts do follow my blog if you like me and my posts 😀
